Penguin is the world’s first compact semi-submarine that lets you explore the underwater without equipment.

The company introduced the submarine first time in the entire history of Maldives Resorts.

 “The Penguin is a unique semi-submersible vehicle designed to take you into the underwater world with a level of safety and comfort previously unknown.”

Designed by Korean company Raonhaje, Penguin is made with a compact transparent compartment that hangs from the middle and stays below the surface of the water.

The unique vehicle almost resembles a regular boat and is made up of two floating hulls on either side of a plexi-glassed cabin, attached underneath.

With the help of this central cabin that comes with three large windows on the front and the side, one can explore the ocean floor without the hassles of getting wet.

제10회 세이셸 에코마라톤대회 성료

민간 공공외교의 대표적 스포츠, 문화축제로 자리매김

죽기 전에 꼭 가봐야 할 천국 세이셸의 마헤섬에서 올해도 제10회 세이셸 에코마라톤대회가 성공적으로 개최되었다.

지난달 26일 대회 당일 오전에 쏟아진 소나기에도 불구하고 약 50개국에서 총 4000여명이 5km, 10km, 하프, 풀코스 마라톤 등 4개 종목에 참가했다.

지난 2008년부터 정동창 세이셸 한국명예총영사가 세이셸 정부에 국민들의 건강, 단합, 관광객유치, 국가 이미지 고양의 목적으로 제안하여 탄생하게 된 에코 마라톤 대회는 지속적으로 성장해 세이셸 국가 4대 이벤트 중 하나로 자리매김했다. 2010년 이래 국제육상경기연맹(AIMS) 공식인증 대회이기도 하다.

올해는 특히 풀코스와 하프코스 등 장거리 참가자들이 지난해에 비해 50% 증가하는 등, 국제장거리대회로서의 면모를 갖췄다.

제10회를 맞이하는 세이셸의 대표 이벤트인 만큼 참가자도 화려했다. 빈센트 메리통 부통령이 10km를 완주했고, 세이셸 관광항공항만부, 사회복지부, 스포츠청소년문화부, 농림수산부 장관 등이 5km 와 10km 코스를 가족들과 함께 완주했다.

대회 조직위원장인 정동창 명예총영사는 “세이셸 에코마라톤 대회가 10년 전 첫 대회를 시작할 때 세웠던 소기의 목적인 참가자 건강 증진, 세이셸 국민 단합, 해외관광객 유치, 세이셸 국가 이미지 제고를 달성하여 큰 보람을 느낀다”며 “보다 발전하여 더 많은 세이셸 국민과 전 세계에서 온 참가자들이 천혜의 자연 속에서 함께 달리고 화합하는 장이 되기를 기대한다”고 말했다.

올해 대회에서는 세이셸 제노 벨 선수가 3시간3분29초의 기록으로 남자 풀코스 부문 1위를 차지했다. 벨은 중거리 육상선수 출신으로, 첫 풀코스 출전에 우승을 거머쥐는 영예를 안았다. 그는 “첫 풀코스 완주라 힘이 들었지만 내년에도 1위 방어를 위하여 출전하겠다”고 소감을 밝혔다. 2위는 남아프리카공화국의 베니아미노 펠레그리니(3:04:41)가, 3위는 한국의 권기혁(3:06:17)씨가 차지했다.

여성부 마라톤은 한국의 문선미 씨가 3시간43분29초의 기록으로 1위를 차지했고, 세이셸의 올리비아 페이투(4:05:47), 케이티 루크(4:08:45) 선수가 뒤를 이었다.

지난 2012년부터 세이셸에코마라톤대회와 순천남승룡마라톤대회는 자매결연을 통해 대회 우승선수를 초청하여 교류해 왔다. 권기혁, 문선미 선수는 순천남승룡마라톤대회 입상자들이며, 오는 11월12일에 열리는 순천남승룡마라톤대회에는 세이셸 풀코스마라톤과 하프마라톤 우승선수가 참가할 예정이다.

한편 매년 세이셸 에코마라톤 대회를 기해 치러진 한국과 세이셸의 민간 문화교류도 10주년을 맞았다. 26일 저녁 버자야 리조트에서는 문화행사의 일환으로 코리안 갈라 디너와 한국의 전통 부채를 이용한 미술작품 전시 이벤트 ‘Breeze from the East’가 개최됐다. 이디스 알렌산더 세이셸 스포츠청소년문화부 장관과 모리스 루스토 라란 세이셸 관광항공항만부 장관이 제막한 본 전시에는 김태연, 박항률, 이석조 작가를 비롯한 총23명의 작가가 참여했다. 더불어 세이셸 정.관계, 재계의 VIP들과 유럽, 중동의 관광객과 마라톤대회 참가자가 함께 자리했다.

김빛남 세이셸관광청 한국사무소장은 “이번 행사를 통해 세이셸뿐 아니라, 마라톤에 참가한 전 세계 관광객들에게 우리 고유 문화의 아름다움과 우수성을 널리 알릴 수 있었다”고 말했다.

세이셸 에코마라톤은 대회는 주한세이셸명예총영사관과 세이셸 체육위원회 주최, 인오션M&C, 세이셸 현지에 진출한 반잠수정 기업 펭귄오션레저 등이 후원했다. 매년 2월 마지막 일요일에 개최되는 본 이벤트의 제11회 행사는 오는 2018년 2월 25일에 개최된다.
